Born in Cape Town, South Africa, into a family of musicians, Marianne first studied music and majored in clarinet performance, and then turned to healthcare, graduating as a physiotherapist in 2017. Having taken an early interest in rehabilitation research during these studies, she chose to divide her career between clinical practice (private clinic) and research studies. She is currently pursuing a PhD full time at Université Laval and the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation and Social Integration (Cirris, Québec City), combining her two areas of interest. The topic of her PhD is workplace prevention and rehabilitation of orchestral musicians’ playing-related problems, which entails working with five professional orchestras in the province of Quebec.
